U.S. Army Reserve 100th Anniversary Celebration at Vancouver Barracks - Vancouver, Washington

On July 19, 2008, in Vancouver, Washington, Soldiers, Families and friends of the 104th Division gathered at Vancouver Barracks for an event-filled 100th Anniversary celebration. The day began with a Soldier formation run at 8:00 am. Family members and community neighbors joined with Soldiers in a 2-lap run around the grounds of the Vancouver National Historic Reserve. Next came the 100th Anniversary of the U.S. Army Reserve celebration. Soldiers and re-enactors portrayed the development and contributions of the Army Reserve, wearing the uniforms of the past 100 years. In his keynote speech, Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Terrill Moffett, former commander of the 104th Division, reminded the audience of over 700 Soldiers and Families that the old ads describing the duties of a peacetime Reservist as being "one weekend a month" was a thing of the past. Reserve Soldiers are now called upon to sacrifice much more than one weekend a month. He fought back tears as he spoke of his pride in the Army, the Army Reserve Soldier, and the United States. The anniversary celebration was followed by the welcome home ceremony for 125 Warrior Citizens and their Families. Most of the Soldiers who were recognized were recently returned from Iraq, having augmented the staff of the Multinational Security Transition Command - Iraq, headquartered in Baghdad.
