Centennial Celebration - Fort Douglas
The U.S. Army Reserve 96th RRC hosted a Centennial Celebration at Fort Douglas on July 23, 2008. The event kicked off at 5:00 PM with plenty of rides, games and free food for children and adults of all ages. A VIP reception at 6:30 PM hosted by the Army Reserve and the Utah Gold Star Families was attended by Major General Alan Bell, Brigadier General Lie-Ping Chang; Major General Peter Cooke, Commanding General of the 96th RRC; and members of the Salt Lake City business community and Congressional staff. A special 100th Anniversary concert began at 7:00 PM which featured the Charley Jenkins Band, the 312th U.S. Army Reserve Band, four local pipe bands and the Choral Arts Society of Utah. Former Miss America Sharlene Wells Hawkes and local television reporter Sterling Poulson emceed the concert event. Sixteen stories ran in various media outlets regarding the Centennial Celebration and Days of '47 events reaching a total audience of 1,087,464.
