100th Commemoration Message from the Command Sergeant Major Leon Caffie
100th Commemoration Message from the Chief of the U.S. Army Reserve
On April 23, 2008, the Army Reserve will commemorate its 100th Anniversary, marking a century of service by America's Warrior-Citizens. We can look with pride upon our wonderful history of achievement, which began in 1908 with a small reserve medical unit and the great idea to leverage civilian skills in support of our national security mission. Since then, the Army Reserve has grown into an incredibly successful and mutually beneficial partnership with the American people, who we all serve.
Throughout this anniversary year, the Army Reserve will conduct a wide variety of events and activities designed to commemorate this historic occasion. Through these activities, we seek to honor and thank our Army Reserve Soldiers and Veterans for one hundred years of service and sacrifice.
We will also be marking this historic milestone in 2008 by thanking the people who support the continued service of our Army Reserve Soldiers: members of our Families, military and civilian co-workers, employers, and friends and neighbors in our communities throughout America. As every Soldier can attest, the Army Reserve could not exist without their vital support.
To all of our Soldiers who make the Army Reserve what it is today, a skill-rich, operational force that enables the world's greatest Army to succeed, thank you for your patriotism, your dedication and service. Stay strong.
Sincerely,
Lieutenant General Jack C. Stultz
Chief, Army Reserve / Commander, United States Army Reserve Command
100th Commemoration Message from the Command Sergeant Major Leon Caffie
On the occasion of the centennial of the United States Army Reserve, we honor those who have served their nation in times of conflict and need.
Since its inception as the Medical Reserve Corps in 1908, the Army Reserve has played a vital role in every major American conflict and humanitarian mission. Today, at this historic milestone, more than 19,000 Army Reserve Soldiers are currently serving overseas in support of the Global War on Terror. Nearly 190,000 men and women have left the comforts of family, community and career to serve in Iraq and Afghanistan since 9/11.
As we have done for 100 years, we take exceptional pride in the service and sacrifice of America's Warrior-Citizens. These patriotic men and women enhance the force with the specialized knowledge and skills they bring from their civilian careers. They also enhance their civilian communities and workplaces with the experience, knowledge and discipline they acquire on the battlefield.
On behalf of the United States Army Reserve, I thank all of our Army Reserve family members, employers and communities. Without your continued support for our Soldiers, we could not succeed in making American safer and more secure.
The Army Reserve has never been stronger or more relevant to America's national security demands. As we look to the next 100 years, we do so with confidence in the patriotism and commitment to excellence exemplified by America's Warrior-Citizens.
Sincerely,
Command Sergeant Major Leon Caffie
