ARMY RESERVE TO CELEBRATE 100TH
ANNIVERSARY IN SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH

Centennial Celebration to include concert and
participation in the Days of '47 Parade

Salt Lake City, UT At the Days of '47 Parade in Salt Lake City, Utah, on July 24, the United States Army Reserve will mark 100 years of service by America's Warrior-Citizens. Since its formation in 1908 as a small medical unit, the Army Reserve's role within the military has expanded greatly, and has played a vital role in every major conflict and humanitarian mission of the past century.

"The Army Reserve is honored to take part in this exciting tradition. Just as the Days of '47 Parade recognizes those brave individuals who had the courage to explore and settle the unknown in 1847; Army Reserve Soldiers also demonstrate the same courage and bravery protecting this land we call home," said Major General Cooke, Commanding General of the U.S. Army 96th Regional Readiness Command.

The annual Days of '47 Parade commemorates the pioneers who settled in the Great Salt Lake Valley in 1847. This year the event will also celebrate the Army Reserve's 100th Anniversary. The Army Reserve will march in the parade and showcase historical military vehicles. In addition, on the evening July 23 the U.S. Army Reserve will host a Centennial Celebration and Concert starring country music singer Charley Jenkins and the 312th U.S. Army Reserve Band.

For 100 years, the United States Army Reserve has demonstrated its strength and significance time and time again, playing an integral role in conflicts including World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, the Cold War, Panama, the Persian Gulf, Somalia, Haiti, Bosnia, Kosovo, the Iraq War, the Global War on Terror, as well as peacekeeping and humanitarian missions. Skill rich Army Reserve Soldiers form the backbone of the United States Army.

Throughout 2008, the Army Reserve is holding observances and special events across the nation in honor of 100 years of service and strength.
