ARMY RESERVE IN INDIANA COMMEMORATES
ITS 100TH ANNIVERSARY AT MAC TOOLS U.S. NATIONALS NHRA RACE
Indianapolis Home to New Combat Tracker Canine Program
Indianapolis, IN — The U.S. Army Reserve is commemorating its 2008 centennial this Labor Day weekend at O'Reilly Raceway Park, which is hosting the prestigious NHRA MAC Tools U.S. Nationals. Fans may witness Army driver Tony Schumacher become the NHRA Top Fuel dragster, and to tie for most wins in NHRA history. Schumacher needs win number 52 to tie Joe Amato on the all-time win list.
Home to more than 1,400 Army Reserve Soldiers, Indianapolis is also the home to a new Combat Tracker Canine Program, which helps save lives by tracking missing or hostage friendly force personnel as well as enemy combatants.
"Three generations in my family have served in the Army Reserve or the Army, and it is an honor for me to be part of such a vital force that bridges the military and civilian workplace," said Army Reserve Sergeant Eddie Quimby. "I decided to enter this program to become a K-9 police officer and to also apply these skills while serving my country."
The eight week Combat Tracker Canine Program is conducted by Vohne Liche Kennels outside Indianapolis. The program instructs Soldiers in the handling of tracking dogs to identify, pursue, track and locate enemy and friendly forces.
Since the U.S. Army Reserve's formation in 1908 as a small medical unit, the Army Reserve's role within the military has expanded greatly, and has played a vital role in every major conflict and humanitarian mission of the past century.
